Professor Khurshid Ahmad

Professor Khurshid Ahmad has been an importantinstrument in the implementation and popularization of LARIBA Banking inPakistan for the past twenty years.

He served as the Minister of Planning in Pakistanand as a senator from 1985 until 1997. His strategies have made a differencein Pakistan and in many developing and developed countries worldwide.

Professor Khurshid was the recipient of the IslamicDevelopment Bank (IDB) award in 1989 and the King Faisal International Award in Social Sciences in 1990.

He is a prolific writer and book author. He isthe founder of the Muslim Institute in the United Kingdom -- a "ThinkTank" which deals in strategic studies in world affairs and in LARIBABanking.

Professor Khurshid is also the founder of theInstitute of Policy Studies in Islamabad, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

1995 award went to H.E. Mr. Muhammad Nor Bin Yakcop,the central banker from Malaysia who is considered the 'father' of halalbanking in Malaysia; the most sophisticated and Malaysian Government sanctionedhalal banking system in the world.

In fact, thanks to Allah and his efforts, MalaysianCentral Bank runs two books one for halal L.A.R.I.B.A. banking andthe other for traditional western RIBA banks.

The 1994 award went to H.E. Sheikh Saleh AbdullahKamel for his concentrated efforts in popularizing halal banking over 25years through Albaraka banks and finance houses in over 30 countries world-wide.
