Professor Khurshid Ahmad Professor Khurshid Ahmad has been an importantinstrument in the implementation and popularization of LARIBA Banking inPakistan for the past twenty years. He served as the Minister of Planning in Pakistanand as a senator from 1985 until 1997. His strategies have made a differencein Pakistan and in many developing and developed countries worldwide. Professor Khurshid was the recipient of the IslamicDevelopment Bank (IDB) award in 1989 and the King Faisal International Award in Social Sciences in 1990. He is a prolific writer and book author. He isthe founder of the Muslim Institute in the United Kingdom -- a "ThinkTank" which deals in strategic studies in world affairs and in LARIBABanking. Professor Khurshid is also the founder of theInstitute of Policy Studies in Islamabad, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Prof. Sabahattin Zaim Dean of the Economics Department, Sakarya University The 1997 award went to Prof. Dr. Sabahattin Zaim for his pioneering the origination of Modern Islamic Banking with Dr. Ahmad Al-Najjar and the organization of Islamic Development Bank while teaching at King Abdul-Azeez University, Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. 
Dr. Zaim also served in many Industrial Chairmanship of Board of Directors, an in many Turkish Government Committees. He is also one of the economic advisors of Turkish Government.
